Current Projects
- The “Primary Prevention Programme”, an initiative of Dr. Katz’s Nephrology team, is investigating the impact of early detection and treatment of renal disease at community level. This project has recently been recognized by the Gauteng Department of Health in the form of a Khanyisa Award.
- The second initiative is the “Heart of Soweto Study” which is being conducted by Prof. Sliwa of the Division of Cardiology, It aims to map cardiovascular disease in Soweto and then look at interventions, which would be effective at tertiary and primary care levels. Both of these initiative are exciting and promise to deliver better health care to our Sowatan community.
- The antiretroviral rollout under the leadership of Dr. Karstaedt has now enrolled >3000 patients. A significant number of these patients have responded well to treatment, regaining health and dignity. delivery.
